Could you tell me how I could use a utility like "John the Ripper" a
password cracker with xgrid technology? How can I setup this utility
as a JOB.
I was going to jump all over you until I saw that your email was from
the FBI, so presumably you want to use this power for good instead of
evil.
To start with, you could split the password files into multiple files
using the "split" command line utility.
You could then use the command line XGrid plugin to have John the
Ripper
work on the file in parallel.
If you're just trying to break a single password (Osama's laptop?) then
you'd probably have to change the source code to JTR so that you can
tell each running copy to do just part of the work, since JTR probably
doesn't support that right out of the box. I'm just guessing, since
I don't know what the jtr command line looks like, perhaps it already
supports that.
