Re: Gbit or Firewire 800

Hi all,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I'll see about getting that fixed.

The confusion is probably due to the fact that Firewire -- as an arbitrated bus -- offers some *theoretical* possibility of being used as a very low-latency transport for, e.g., MPI. Even, presumably, compared to non-IP utilizations of Ethernet (e.g., GAMMA <http://www.disi.unige.it/project/gamma/index.html#aBSTR>). However, since there are currently no MPI over Firewire implementations available, this is just speculation.

I apologize for any confusion.

This is consistent with what I've been told by Apple personnel - ip
over firewire is intended as a convenience for connecting two machines
and not a high-performance interconnect.

*laugh!* Somebody should tell the marketing/website people!!!
