Re: Xsan Admin, Clients show public IP

When I want to clean a client system from it's history of being attached to a Xsan Volume I do the following:

Step 1: Backup /Library/Filesystem/Xsan on another system or disk just in case.

Step 2: Remove folder /Library/Filesystem/Xsan/config (maybe move to desktop as a second backup)

Step 3: Remove folder /Library/Filesystem/Xsan/data (maybe move to desktop as a second backup)

Step 4: Open Terminal Window. Login as root using "su" command (if not enabled, enable root in netinfo manager)

Step 5: Type "cd /var/run" to go to /var/run directory. List contents using "ls" command

Step 6: Remove anything starting with the word Xsan by entering command "rm -r xsan*" (check for case sensitivity)

Step 7: After closing Terminal window launch the Keychain Manager from Utilities and remove any keychain that has the mention of Xsan.

Step 8: Reboot

It's overkill for changing an IP but if you are moving machines around between different setup or something it's often faster to wipe and re-setup.

Now when I go to Setup -> Computers in Xsan Admin I can see the address of several Macs that have Xsan installed, however these addresses are the public IPs/DNS names of the Macs I want to add even though I set the Primary MDC to use the private "Built-in Ethernet 2" port for the accessing the SAN.

Should I be concerned? I expected to see the private IPs of these Macs (via Bonjour?)

Don't worry about it. This is somewhat of a side-effect of how Bonjour works. Your Xsan clients will still communicate with the MDC using the private Ethernet network.
