RE: Remote files

This is so funny, I just logged into my e-mail to ask almost the exact same question.
I am trying to get the Internet Primary feature of Apple Help to work.
I am trying verify that I am doing a couple of things right. As far as I can tell I have my settings all correct, but I am not having any luck.
I have a set of Help files at http://sample/abc/ and have created an IDX file using Apple Help Indexing tool 1.3.3 that has the following entries:
English tokenizer with stemmer Built in tokenizer and stemmer.
Use remote root for missing files selected
http://sample/abc/
Prefer netowrk files to local files selected
Index anchor information in all files selected
If I delete or move a file from the local Help files on my Mac I receive an Alert. "This information is on the Internet. Do you want to connect to the Internet and view it?"
If I click OK Internet Connect opens and I can select between Airport and modem connections
If I click cancel I get nothing
I have a live net connection and can connect to the page http://sample/abc/abctitle.htm using Safari or IE to view the servers Help content. Apple Help can't seem to recognize that live connection however. I can also activate my Airport connection to connect to the same network in the Internet Connect dialog with the same bad results in the Apple Help viewer.
Apple Help just doesn't want to server up remote content to me. Any idea on what I might be missing or should try?
I have tried this on an isolated network with only a Web server computer and my Mac client as well as our larger corporate network. The isolated network with 2 computers and a router shouldn't have had any communication issues since the computers could share files, and the Mac client could view Web server content.Any help will be very appreciated.Thank you,Greg Davis--- On Thu 05/27, Steve Mills < email@hidden > wrote:From: Steve Mills [mailto: email@hidden]To: email@hiddente: Thu, 27 May 2004 13:59:13 -0500Subject: Remote filesI'm trying to get it so our help book will download updated files from our server in 10.3. In Apple Help Indexing Tool, I turned on "Use remote root for missing files", entered the url of where we will store the updated help files, and turned on "Prefer network files to local files". Built the index.I then editing one of the html files, rebuild the index, and put those 2 files on the remote site. Then I reverted my local 2 files so they would be different than what's on the server. When I open our help book, it does not load the new page from the server.Either I'm doing something wrong or this isn't working like advertised. What checks does Help Viewer use to compare the local files to the remote files? Am I correct in thinking that it will download updated files and not just missing files? It does use http to do the accessing, right? Lastly, is putting an updated index file as well as changed files on the server the correct thing to do with content changes?_________________________________________________________Steve Mills Me: 952-401-6255Senior Software Architect email@hidden www.multi-ad.com_______________________________________________apple-help-authoring mailing list | email@hiddenlp/Unsubscribe/Archives: http://www.lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/apple-help-authoringDo not post admin requests to the list.
