Re: Finder 'Document File' versus 'typeFSS'

To 'navigate' the file system, we need to address the 'Finder' (because as
far as we know, that is the only app that can 'get the folder of a file'

Be aware that not every OS X user runs the Finder, preferring third-party file managers instead.

This works fine, with the only exception that our original typeFSS object
immediately becomes a 'document file' type (which is a finder type)

Actually it becomes a reference (e.g. document file "Foo" of folder "Bar" of disk "Baz" of application "Finder") [1], not a type [2].

However, we don't see any way of converting this back to a 'typeFFS' object.

Ask the Finder to coerce the reference to a file spec for you:

tell application "Finder"
set str to name of inInputFile
set test2 to file str of folder of inInputFile as file specification
end tell

HTH

has

[1] Really a relational query, but folk generally call them references as it sounds less scary.

[2] Really a symbol, but folk generally... etc.
