10.5, 64 bit and FSSpec

My 64 bit application is receiving FSSpecs on 10.5 (if someone puts these into an Apple event).
In 10.6 such data is converted into an FSRef.

What is the recommended way of handling FSSpecs in an Apple event parameter on 10.5 - i.e. how should I convert it to an FSRef?
