Re: Debugger?

I've been using FaceSpan for years, but I don't really remember any kind of
debugger with it. The log window there was a mess on its own. Anyway I
thought it was dead at all, so the news that theres a new version coming
will at least make me give it a look.

It didn't have one, but it played VERY nicely with other applications that did. Since it didn't have one, the performance of it wasn't an issue. I imagine that DTI will be looking hard at integrating with Script Debugger.

In the meantime I appreciate what Apple has put together with AS Studio,
because it is a seamless integration of Cocoa and AS, although I have to
admit that the beloved object model of AS took some damage while they where
at it. It is not meant as a RAD for AS, like FaceSpan, it is a very cool
environment with AS sitting on top of Cocoa.

It's not a seamless integration at all. It's a good first try, but neither Java or AppleScript are truly peer languages in Cocoa, no matter what the PR says. Show me the way without using Obj-C to get window resizing. If I can't use the debugger, why isn't this #1 on the list of known issues? This is a major showstopper for people. Wow, i can write real applications with thousands of lines of code, then travel back in time by 20 years if those lines aren't perfect. Cool does not make up for a critical feature that's broken.

Comparing those two is like comparing apples and pears.
The more I use it, the more I like it. As it matures the debugger should be
fixed.

I'm glad you can use it. I cannot without a debugger, and until I can easily and simply just set breakpoints and step through my code, that will not change, PR and name changes not withstanding. I've never said that Studio wasn't a major accomplisment, but not having a debugger is like finding a bone in your filet mignon: The rest of it may have been great, but the experience isn't what it should be.

For what I would say, my wish list would contain other issues than a
debugger for AS.

I'm not even talking about the language. I'm talking about one tool with a really bad flaw.
