re: AppleScript on Japanese system

I am just completing localization of one of my apps to Japanese. It uses a ton of text parsing and I feel your pain with AppleScript and parsing on other languages. Basically, what I find works for almost every situation is to use "as unicode text" . With any string or delimiter I add this qualifier and my headaches went away.

For example, with the delimiters I had to do the following:

set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "some delim" as unicode text.

For my application I have changed "as string" to "as unicode text" where ever it appears. There may be some downside to doing this, but I haven't found one yet. I would be interested to find out if there are situations where using "as unicode text" would not be a good idea.
