Saving table data in document class' write to file handler

I'd like my save file to be text based for a Document app project I'm doing. The document window is several text fields whose values I'll need to write to the file in addition to a couple tables. The data representation handler sure makes it easy to store data from a table as an object, but I'd like the save file to be text based.
Suggestions of how to go about saving table data using the 'write to' handler?
