Keyboard status

Hi, folks!

I'm brand new in AppleScript (actually, I'm brand new in programming at all) so I beg for some light!

I think what I need is something simple to do, but don't know how:
I need a small script that, when launched, will look at four keyboard keys (Shift, Control, Option and Command) and see if any of it is pressed. If not, it will perform a default action. If yes, then it will perform a diferent action for each of the keys.

Am I confusing or what? =)

Can someone give me a clue?
