broken droplets

Has anyone run into this problem: droplets created with AS Studio don't work!

In last weeks episode, I asked how to show a window and access text fields from a droplet. Thanks to your help, I set "visible at launch time" and saw the window. But, the text fields of the window still can't be accessed with "set contents of text field 1 of window ....." In fact, nothing within the "on open", including display diaolg is run.

The Muses were kind to me and gave me the idea to include a "will open theObject" handler in which was written "set contents of text field 1 of theObject to "Yo, wazzup!"". Lo and behold the text field changed. BUT still no actions from within the "on open" handler.

So, the ultimate experiment-- the simplest droplet:
on open names
beep
end

build and drop a file: no beep!

What gives?? All comments, hints, help gratefully accepted.

The vitals: Imac, G3, 500MHz, OS 10.1, Proj. Build. v2.0, IntFace Build. v2.2.1
