Text file question

Hi all,

I have a small app which uses ".txt" files as input, it creates a list of lists out of the text, the items of the sublists will be converted to strings modified and then a new text will be created out of the (modified) input and saved as .txt file.
Since none of the users know what type of text encoding the file is (UTF-16, Mac etc) they don't know how to handle that file
Is there a way to figure out what kind of encoding a text/file has and to save it the same way or based on a user selection?

Regards
Andreas
