Pulldown menus are for running commands, while popup menus are for displaying and selecting a setting. Method vs. property, blah blah blah.

Yes, it helps greatly. I regret that I failed to find this obvious distinction in the documentation. Likely it's there, and I simply overlooked it.
To really understand this stuff, the documentation to read is the HI Guidelines. Really, that whole document should be a prerequisite to AS Studio.
