more than one script

I have been shying away from using more than one script in an ASS application for a while now.. well always.. 

But now I see a real benfit to it.. I'd like to put all my sub routines (or functions? which is correct?) into one script, then call on them from the other script.. I think there are issues with variables etc, but I'm sure I can sort that out in time.. 

So, two part question.. 

1) How do you create two scripts in an ASS application? so that you could potentially point buttons to either of those scripts.. 

2) How can you call on functions stored in the other script? 

I hope this reads OK..
