Re: ASS GUI Interface for CMS

AppleScript Studio is great, but I don't think this scenario plays to

It probably depends on one's definition of "CMS."

"Non-trivial programming exercise" would be mine. :) I'm sort of with David here, in that other languages (Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP, etc.) have far better *existing* resources available to them, ranging from better database bindings and other basic libraries, through general- purpose web frameworks, to dedicated CMS engines and applications. (Oh, and Perl, Python and Ruby also have very good Cocoa bindings and Apple event bridges, if you need to do any desktop GUIs or application scripting while you're at it.)

My recommendation to the OP would be that before making *any* decisions on what technologies to use, you work up a proper requirements list describing what this CMS will be used for, what features it needs to provide, how large/scalable it needs to be, etc. You can then take this list and shop around to see if there's an existing CMS framework/application out there that could fit most or all of these requirements. Folks will be able to provide more detailed and useful advice and suggestions if they know what the requirements are, and with a bit of luck you could find an existing system that could be customised to fit your needs in much less time and work than it'd take to develop a complete new system from scratch. Even if you do still end up developing a pure AS/Studio solution from scratch, working out your feature requirements and usage patterns before getting into the technical nitty-gritty is just basic good development practice.
