The failing script I posted was just copied/pasted from SE; and, I
swear it, I double-checked everything before posting: it really didn't
work!
Given above statements, I launched SE again, and copied/pasted the
script from my mail. No failure anymore...

Thanks for all the messages.
On my machine I am using 10.3.9 and of course never met what was
described.
I was quite ready to test it under 10.4.7 which is installed but not
used daily but, the late messages make me free of that.
May I get explanations about the sentence:
-- (fortunately) fails since 10.4.x
I see nothing making the "old" behaviour a bad one.
