curl is the winner. (Well, that's an opinion.) <http://haxx.se/curl.html> Apple delivers an older version with OS neXt. "man curl" in Terminal.app for more about that.
Curl can be used with a "do shell script" command

There is also "Finder:Go:Connect to server" but it does not allow uploads even with a name and password. Curl has the -T option for that. (We may have upload and download confused here. I don't think URL Access ever did what I call uploads.)
