Depends on the action. If the action I'm wanting the Finder to perform is
consistent with the contents of a folder, then yes, it would be reasonable
to expect the Finder to be able to interact in an appropriate manner with
the items that can be in a folder.

If the output of list disks is wrong, then it should be fixed, but I'm more
surprised that people wouldn't expect the finder to be able to act on a disk
name with an eject command.
