Re: Folder action in download folder...

What version of OS X? In older versions the folder had to be open for the folder actions to work. That is not necessary in Tiger and at least in later versions of Panther (possibly all versions.) I think Jaguar (10.2) still required the folder to be open, but don't quote me on it.

Also you want to enable folder actions, then attach a folder action to the folder in question. I'm not sure I understand what the steps you took are. Anywhere, here's how you do it:

right-click/control-click anywhere, select "Enable folder actions" if it is not already enabled. You don't have to do this every time - it's a global setting. If it is already enabled it will read "Disable folder actions", which obviously you don't want to select!

right-click/control-click folder in question, select "Attach a folder action..." and choose your desired folder action.

Is there a trick to getting Folder Actions to work?

I followed the following steps:
Select folder icon in folder's container.
Ctrl-click and select "Configure Folder Actions..."
Check "Enable Folder Actions"
Make sure correct folder is listed and "On" box is checked in the left hand portion of the "Folder Actions Setup" window.
Exit this application.
With same folder selected ctrl-click and select the appropriate compiled script with "Attach a Folder Action..."
I verified that this script is recorded under "Configure Folder Actions".

But, nothing happens when I drag a file to this folder. What am I doing wrong?
