How do I get System Events to select an item on a contextual menu?

I can't reproduce your experience because my scroll area 1 doesn't have a
text area 1. You'd have to explain what manipulations you made in Mail to
get a text area into scroll area 1, and an image into the text area.

In the absence of a general description, I had a bit of difficulty working out the target too, Bill. My best guess is that John is possibly targeting the window of an open message, in which the body contains an image as an inline attachment.

To be honest, this looks suspiciously like one of those rough edges in UI scripting to me. (I've come across one or two other situations where Accessibility Inspector confirms the existence of a UI element, but which is evidently not possible to access from a script.)

I'd be delighted to discover that I'm wrong on this. If I'm not, and John can confirm exactly what he's trying to do, it may be possible to suggest a workaround.
