He's using Tiger, but he wants an "on demand" randomization. As I noted, the script does this, but reverts to the (N-1) desktop picture on reboot. The Pref Pane must know where the cached copy or whatever is, as using the Pref Pane produces the desired behavior. However that would not work for choosing a random picture.
