RE: IPNetTuner & Tuning 100Mb networks

I did some messing around with my server, and when I connected via appletalk only, It was moving data about 2 megs a second. Are the clients connecting over TCP/IP or appletalk. In ASIP you have the option of IP or AT or both. What are you using??? You can leave the AT off and run IP only and the server will still show up in the chooser.

Is the server connecting to the switch at half or full duplex???? What are the clients connecting at??? Everybody should be the same, or the switch has overhead to deal with because so of the clients running at half and some at full duplex.

For the server, it's a b&w G3/400. I have the standard SCSI card Apple
shipped that has (1) 10GB 10k RPM IBM drive and (3) 9.1GB (10k RPM) Seagate
Barracudas. There is also a Adaptec 39160 SCSI card with the RAID attached
to channel A. I am using built-in Ethernet using default speed settings. I
run Web & File services only, and web services is really just for web admin.
All the workstations run to a HP Procurve 4000 40 port switch. The server
load isn't a heavy stream, it is more sporadic. It is my understanding from
previous posts here and on another list that Macs speak fastest using half
duplex. Have I been duped?

I haven't changed a thing on our clients (B&W/Graphite Machines), and
I can saturate the 100mb link on my G3 upgraded 9500. Max bandwith
across 100mb is ~10 megabytes a second. Should work fine with the
default settings. I would take a look at the network and the disk
subsystems on your server. What is the actual load, and what
features of ASIP are you using???

Has anyone come up with a setting that really makes ASIP or Macs fly on a
100Mb network? I've thought about using this to try and squeeze any extra
performance from our network. All the Macs currently have the TCP/IP
Options
control panel that sets the MTU higher. But, I feel the need for speed. I
can live with 2MB/sec from most workstations, but would like to see better.
Especially from my server without having to go to gigabit.
