Re: Upgrade path

It would be helpful if you give us an idea of your budget---are you looking
for the $500 or $5000 solution? If you want the cheap solution, upgrade the
OS to 9.2.2 and the newest version of ASIP and buy a bigger (or another)
hard drive. For less than $500 you could easily double your storage (if you
stick with SCSI) or massively expand it if you go with EIDE.

Are you running ASIP email or something else? If you're running something
else, you might kick all the other apps (email, retrospect, calendar) to a
second machine to give some performance boost.

Does the G4 PowerMac have an 100baseT Ethernet? If your network is 100baseT
you can buy an inexpensive 100baseT card for the machine to push more data
over the network.

If money isn't an object, then you should probably go with a new server like
OSX server (and new hardware), a NAS box (look at the Dell PowerEdge) or
other server. Your choice depends on the ratio of macs to PCs in the
network and comfort level with Apple or non-Apple hardware. Upgrading your
server to OSX (or other OS) will also require some investment in Retrospect
software and admin training.
