Re: Fmserver and ASIP

On same machine:

Will depend on your level of operation on both - BUT the standard would be
one service - one box for a whole host of reasons - way better to have two
smaller boxen if money is the problem ( but plenty of ram always), than one
larger box and two major services on it. After running ASIP and FM server
for about 8 years, that's the view from here.

This way you will avoid a bunch of questions that fall into the class I
call "questions I don't want to know the answer to " like, "how many
databases can I put online before it will crash my system?" and " can ASIP's
important files survive a crash caused by FM?" or "how long does it take to
completely re-install and configure ASIP and FM from questionable backups?"

There are some things we just don't want to know.

BTW - IMNSHO - the earlier version of FM server on OS9 and ASIP on OS9 are
still strong products to me, if you don't need features from the newer
versions. We're using new FM as well as OSXS, but... Sometimes a Cat D9 is
not the required tool for the job, and the little old BobCat is just fine,
thank you.

John Gonder
