-110 errors on ASIP 6.3.1 server ubder OS 9.0.4, with OS9.2.2 clients

Hello everybody at the ASIP list.

I have a problem with my clients and/or my ASIP 6.3.1. server producing -110
errors.

My setup is:

Server:
G4 450 MHz 384 MB RAM, running under macOS 9.0.4
On the server I have an ultra 160 SCSI controller wit an IBM deskstar 36 GB
disk which is partioned into 6 partitions.
these 6 partitions each have their share points on a folder within each
drive.
On the server only the file server service is running, with only TCP/IP
enabled.

Network:
A switched 10base10 ethernet network (Cabletron smartswitches).

Clients:
22 G4 933 MHz 512 MB RAM, running macOS 9.2.2
5 older macs like 7600, 7300's with macOS 7.6.1 and 8.1.

Problem:
frequently there are some clients that are connected to the server that have
te following problem. When opening a folder on 1 of the volumes of the
server (most of the time they do this by opening an alias to that folder on
te server) they will get an error message that a type -110 error has
occurred. 9 times out of 10 this error will repait infinitly when the OK
button is pressed in te allert dialog, a new error will come up.
The only remedy i have found yet is to reboot the client, also force
quitting the Finder will help.

sometimes i do also have this problem on the server itself also opening a
folder by doubble clicking an alias to a folder within the shared volumes.

This error has yet over nearly 2 years never occurred on the older macs,
only on the g4's under os 9.2.2.

Earlier i read that this might be connected with the springloaded folders
feature of the finder on both the server as well as the clients.

Is there anybody with some comments on this matter?
