Network pauses

Dear List,

We have a mac network of 6 macs running on Asip 6.3, and a network server
machine G4. This runs on a 10/100 ethernet network with a Netgear 16 port
ethernet switch. The ASIP really only does file sharing these days. The
server (G4) also has a broadband router connected to the uplink port on the
switch.

The broadband router is new. Since we installed it, we have started to
notice annoying network 'pauses' of two or three seconds. It happens in
every application you are running. You will be typing away (like in this
email) and every few minutes, you get these pauses.

What could be causing this? The only other change to the server, apart from
the new broadband, was that we uninstalled the Viacom Internet Gateway
software we had to run the old dialup modem.

Can anyone help, before I go berserk and get my sledge hammer out?

thanks,

Mike
