great expectations

I won't hesitate to say that the fringe advantages that I personally get from being an officer of my MUG aren't dissatisfactory. It allows me the ability to seek the offerings available to me as such, i.e. get to append VP to my name without having had to claw the ladder of the business jungle; get to speak my mind with additional weight behind me (see previous); get to stand before a group of my peers to share and have the same be reciprocated; communicate my enthusiasm for my Mac; and on and on.

Thanks to those who've had kind words and to those that haven't as well.

But I won't acknowledge that I don't work for my involvement in my UG and that I bring the show down with my brand of communications within the group. There is no way that this is a truthful statement. Sometimes I am outspoken in my views and often I will bring not my own perceptions of what I think should be done, but what I have gathered is the general overall conclusions from others. Even if it disagrees from a "devil's advocate" perspective with my own personal opinion.

As an officer, it should be my duty to bring a full objective perspective from all our members, not just "me" the individual. At times this is detrimental to my own outcome and sometimes it will bring additional benefits that I would not have seen forthcoming. It is often easier just being a membership holder with the only expectation being of attending the meeting and nothing else.

Many of us choose to volunteer the deeper waters of officership because we see so much that can be done to continue to improve things for the whole. So...some things that I see MUGs and Apple should be thinking about in support of what we do and what we can offer:

-If you believe that ones efforts affects performance...

-If you believe that ones performance determines predictable outcomes...

-If one believes that one values those outcomes...

...then one should believe that one's motivation will expend maximum effort.

We communicate our enthusiasm, promote cooperation, inspire others to reach out to meet those expectations every time we share our love of our Macs and tell others how great this computer is in comparison.

As user groups, what are some long term goals that we should be thinking about? and in conjuction with the symbiotic relationships that we have because of, or with, or without Apple? or short term goals?
