Passing input to the next action

I'm working on an action that downloads files from a server. The input to the action is a list of server items to download. By default I think the output should be the files that were downloaded. But in some circumstances it might be useful to have the input passed along to the next action, e.g. so that the next action could move or delete the now-downloaded server items.

Is there a recommended solution to this design problem? I could add a "Pass input to the next action" checkbox to the action's UI, but the output connector would still be labelled with the type of the default output (i.e. files), which wouldn't be correct.
