1. We'll soon be releasing information on licensing Bonjour for Windows.
2. We updated all six Internet Drafts yesterday and the new versions
are posted.
Most of the changes were to clarify things and address feedback given
on the mailing list. The biggest change, which was previously
discussed, is that mDNS no longer checks the IP TTL=255. The new
draft says that responders SHOULD set the TTL to 255 to be backward
compatible with older clients that check the TTL. Mac OS X Jaguar
did not check the TTL, so we're good there. Mac OS X Panther 10.3 to
10.3.8 checked the TTL, but in 10.3.9, mDNSResponder was updated to
remove the TTL check, and of course Mac OS X Tiger does not check the
TTL. None of the Windows releases ever checked.
The major change in the DNS-SD draft, which was also previously
discussed on the list, is that the format for subtypes was updated to
include a "_sub" label in the PTR record name. As far as we know, no
one is currently using subtypes. Mac OS X Jaguar did not support
subtypes, and mDNSResponder was updated in Mac OS X 10.3.9 to use the
new subtype format. The latest DNS-SD draft also includes updated
information about wide-area domain discovery.
3. We released some preliminary web pages that explain how to set up
a Bonjour name server, and another page allows you to download the
Bonjour Preference Pane to configure clients.
Enjoy, and if you're at WWDC, don't forget to stop by the Bonjour
plugfest during the Campus Bash.
