Java - DNS-SD - DNS server

Hi
I would like to set up a system which allow me to create announce of services through DNS-SD and a client that will read these announces of services.
It will be implemented in Java.
First, I would like to know if the Bonjour API need an already configured DNS server to create new announces of services.
I would also like to know whether I can use the Bonjour API to program in Java. I downloaded mDNSresponder which contain Bonjour API and I saw a Java client in it which seems to indicate that it's possible but I'm not sure of my analysis.
For the client side, I think that everything is include in the API (browsing of services, ...) but if you have any advice to give, it would be very helpful.
Thanks for your answers.
