Hello,
I was wondering if someone could tell me what the current status of
DNS-SD/mDNS is in terms of standardization effort in IETF. The two
I- Ds (draft-cheshire-dnsext-dns-sd & draft-cheshire-dnsext-
multicastdns) seem to have expired and I didn't see anything
happening on this front in IETF 68 a couple of weeks ago.
I've read through the Bonjour vs. LLMNR battle in the IETF mailing
list from 1.5 year ago, and noticed that LLMNR has been published
recently as an informational RFC. Wikipedia article on Zeroconf
states that Apple was asked to submit a counterpart by IETF. Is this
in the works?
Yes, eventually we'll submit the drafts to be published as
Informational RFCs.
If so, is there another mailing list where possible modifications to
the current spec can be discussed?
You can discuss modifications to the spec on this mailing list.
We had an I-D in IETF 68 on discovering SIP user agents via DNS-SD (http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-lee-sip-dns-sd-uri-00
, http:// www3.ietf.org/proceedings/07mar/slides/sip-11.pdf); hence
my interest on the current status of DNS-SD. We also propose a small
change in the DNS-SD spec. So I was wondering what would be the
appropriate place to bring it up.
Please feel free to discuss them here, however, given that the
industry has been shipping Bonjour products based on the spec for 5
years, we'd like to avoid making any changes that would break backward
compatibility.
Best Regards,
-Marc
