Tiger Install problem

I have been trying unsuccessfully to install Tiger on my work machine. It does not have a SuperDrive, only a combo, so I burnt a DVD on my home machine and brought it in to work. (The install goes smoothly at home)

When the installer comes up, every new step (Welcome, License confirmation etc) takes about 5 minutes to come up and eventually the installer will crash. I suspect that my combo drive is having trouble reading the DVD.

I remember from a previous OS seeding that there was a discussion on here about how to get the contents of the seed dmg onto a spare partition on the disk and then booting off that partition. Unfortunately I have not been able to find that discussion.

I have tried the Restore option in Disk Utility, but that fails immediately with an error (2). I tried Carbon Copy Clone but when I tried to boot from the partition I got a big circle with a line through it at startup.

Anyone had any success with this issue?

Matt Gough

P.S. Hint for some future OS - Allow users to boot off a disk image :)
