It is always important to practice good hygiene.
This is what I was missing. I need to call it right before EndQDContextForApplicationDockTile();

QDFlushPortBuffer( theTilePort, NULL );

Glad that worked for you.

If it's possible, I'd actually recommend the nice CG variants of these calls. The results look better since you can draw with Quartz and use alpha.
