Just to clarify: The fast version is compiled on a 10.3 system, and
the slow version is compiled on a 10.4 system?

Is the target MachO and linked to the current system frameworks? In
other words, always links to the frameworks in /System and not the
frameworks in /Developer/SDK?

If the answer to both is yes, then you should know that application
linked under 10.4 to 10.4 libraries may have a different behavior than
one linked to the 10.3 libraries.

I don't recall every area that will have a different behavior. I think
window compositing is different somehow...

Anyways, checking out the notes for the relevant APIs for what changed
in 10.4 may help.

That's a good idea, if you're right about the OS releases that Bob is using. The relevant release notes are the HIToolbox notes at <http:// developer.apple.com/releasenotes/Carbon/HIToolbox.html>. Search for "coalesced updates" for a possible explanation.
