CFMessagePortSendRequest replyMode to use to wait on reply

Can anyone tell me what I should pass as replyMode if I want CFMessagePortSendRequest to block until I get a reply back or the timeout is reached? I get the impression that I can pass just a random string, is that correct? Anything else I need to do not to get unpleasant side effects?
