Did you by any chance install the Mac OS X 10.4.3 version intended for the DTK?

Have a look to the build number: when it's higher than 8G32 (the Build number of the Mac OS X 10.4.4 version you are about to install) -- e.g. 8F1111 -- you will have to remove that version before proceeding.
