| Thanks, Eric. I have an old bug specifically requesting that background apps with NSStatusItems be given a way to reliably manipulate the cursor (3260283) - particularly over its own UI elements (e.g. a window or menu). I wrote this in a general way because I don't care as much about having total control over the cursor. I just want control over the cursor when it makes sense to the user that I have it (above my UI). If somebody else feels strongly about being able to display a cursor in general, even without specific UI (e.g. matching the abilities of the built-in screen capture utility), then I suggest they report a separate bug asking specifically for that wide-sweeping behavior.
