Re: Changing or hiding the cursor in a background app?

Thanks, Eric. I have an old bug specifically requesting that background apps with NSStatusItems be given a way to reliably manipulate the cursor (3260283) - particularly over its own UI elements (e.g. a window or menu).  I wrote this in a general way because I don't care as much about having total control over the cursor. I just want control over the cursor when it makes sense to the user that I have it (above my UI).

If somebody else feels strongly about being able to display a cursor in general, even without specific UI (e.g. matching the abilities of the built-in screen capture utility), then I suggest they report a separate bug asking specifically for that wide-sweeping behavior. One way to ask for it would be to say "Please expose the 'SetsCursorInBackground' CGS connection property as public API."

There's no less tweaky way of doing this, but I think we might have a bug report requesting the ability to do this in an official manner already. It would be helpful (if you haven't already) to file another bug, just to make sure - send me the bug number if you do. Always a good idea to file a bug requesting an official way to do something when you find yourself wanting to use SPI.
