Re: [OT] custom hybrid CDs

So far, most every post in this thread has been about Toast. Well, I don't much care for Toast - or their upgrade policies - so in my shop we use Discribe from CharisMac. I'm currently running v5.1 and it works great.

The product costs less than Toast; they don't hound you every few months with upgrade fees that are 70+% of the purchase price; it just works; and if you buy automation hardware, they handle that too.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way; I just want to share the pleasure I've had switching AWAY from Toast.

Cheers,

Surely I'm not the only developer who needs to ship a cross-platform

product on a custom hybrid CD.  (By "custom hybrid CD", I mean a CD

that mounts on a Mac as HFS+, and mounts as Joliet on Windows,

showing completely or somewhat different sets of files in the two

cases.)  How do you do it?  Toast 5 was able to do it, but that

doesn't run on OS X, and later versions of Toast can't.  It can be

done, somewhat awkwardly, with the hdiutil command line program, but

that's broken on Tiger (rdar://4157299), so I have to boot into Panther.

Toast 5.2.3 runs under OS X.

True, but I just tried it, and when making a custom hybrid, it writes the Mac volume in HFS format, not HFS+.  I guess they somehow lost the HFS+ capability when updating for OS X.

I've just found out that hdiutil has a known bug of deleting commas from file names on the Joliet side.  So I guess I have to use Toast 7.
