LDAP result sorting

Hello:

I'm using the LDAP library (/System/Library/Frameworks/ LDAP.framework) in an application I am building. I would like the client to sort LDAP search results by surname primarily and given name secondarily. I can successfully sort by surname using ldap_sort_entries(), but I cannot seem to add given name as a second sort criterion.

When searching the Web for a solution, there are many references to ldap_multisort_entries(), which seems to be a Mozilla product. This function is not available in the OS X LDAP library. Does anybody know why not? My attempts to add the source files were disastrous, so I figured there must be an easier way.

Is there another way to sort by two (or more) criteria? I tried server-side sorting, but I'm not having much luck. I would prefer to stick with client-side sorting.

Thanks,
Steve
