Did you ever run Disk Utilities "Verify" or "Repair" routines on
the drive?
It sounds like you may have had an orphaned (lost it's parent
directory)
directory or file. Repair would have found & fixed this and
recovered the
missing 300M (or file).
Yes, I did, several times.
From now on, I'll always use "zero blocks" when formatting!
I wouldn't. A 300 GByte drive could take hours! ;-)
I'll wait it out. After this experience, it's worth the wait to know
that things are clean and ready to use.
