File Buddy's CM is a Universal Binary, and it has a Touch command, though I
wouldn't use it for this as it changes the modified date and that's not
needed to address this issue. Also, someone pointed out that doing a Get
Info in the Finder, selecting the icon and pressing the delete key causes
the Finder to update the icon. As long as the application doesn't have a
custom icon, that shouldn't change anything.

File Buddy's contextual menu also has an Update Application Database
command. It calls LSRegister and tells the Finder to update, though you
don't need LSRegister for the problem the OP was seeing.
