You can use Rainer's "Nudge Contextual Menu" to force the Finder to
update: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22311.
(NOTE: this isn't yet a Universal Binary; bug him to release an
updated version). I use it all the time and it works great for issues
like that.
File Buddy's CM is a Universal Binary, and it has a Touch command,
though I
wouldn't use it for this as it changes the modified date and that's
not
needed to address this issue. Also, someone pointed out that doing
a Get
Info in the Finder, selecting the icon and pressing the delete key
causes
the Finder to update the icon. As long as the application doesn't
have a
custom icon, that shouldn't change anything.
You could also probably 'touch' the application bundle, which would
most likely cause LS to re-read in the application and possibly have
the Finder update the icon.
File Buddy's contextual menu also has an Update Application Database
command. It calls LSRegister and tells the Finder to update, though
you
don't need LSRegister for the problem the OP was seeing.
