This is a pretty major change from last year - Carbon
applications will now always be 32-bit?
Although there will be no real benefit to 64-bit for most
applications, in marketing terms it will quickly become the new
Universal.
No, it won't, because it's not "Universal", it's "totally niche".
The people who need 64-bit are probably already doing it without
Cocoa.
Marketing and those who are exposed to it don't care. Why do you
think that 64bit is a big feature of the 10.5 Finder? Because it's
useful or because it's a buzzword?
Given the coverflow stuff and whatever that feature is that lets you
look into files with lots of pretty animation it may provide better
performance.
We have a lot of customers asking about a 64bit version without
even understanding what the benefits and what the drawbacks of a
64bit application are. They just want it because it's a buzzword.
All they see is that in the WWDC keynote demo, the 64bit app was a
lot faster than the 32bit app, and that's what they now expect from
our apps.
Then you'd better roll up your sleeves. ;-)
