Are you sure? Assembly programmers used to say that about C. As processors continue to get faster, things like simplicity, stability and maintainability may well overcome language overhead issues.

From the other side, it's not hard to imagine put Java byte-code
support into silicon making Java competitive with compiled C.

But the bigger point is that Apple seems interested in having Cocoa
support for any language that is capable of supporting Cocoa and
popular with new programmers.

Obj-C may if MS changes it's development environment to that and
convinces it's 10s of 1000s of developers to.

That's a good idea. I'll bet C# is capable of speaking Cocoa.
