Because eventually Mac OS X will be 64 bit only.
Just like how 24 bit addressing was dropped, 68k support was dropped,
PPC601 dropped, etc., etc. One day 32 bit CPUs will be dropped, and at
that time Carbon apps are useless. Of course, eventually may be far
away. Also, eventually, Cocoa will be dropped for the next best thing,
but that will be after Carbon is dropped.
