As I understand it, Intel has a mobile chip schedule for release in
2008 that doesn't have a 32-bit mode.
Where have you seen that? The only thing I found is that Windows
Server 2008 will be the last *Windows* *Server* release that will be
installable on 32 bit systems (although later versions will probably
still be able to run 32 bit applications). I have not seen anything
about Intel removing 32 bit modes.
Yes. If it does happen, it'll be Windows that removed 32-bit modes,
not likely Intel. Intel still has 30+ years of legacy cruft in its
x86 chips. They couldn't change the fundamental stuff since if it is
too fundamental a change (like IA-64) it's not backwards compatible
at all.
The weird thing is that Wow 16-bit still exists for hard coded third
party installer applications. Which is odd to me.
