What I've done is to use the Major, Minor, and BugFix Gestalt selectors
and only
consult the PList for the build number.  If you get the version from
the PList,
you then have to parse that out if you need it as a numeric value.

According to Gestalt.h, "a better way" is to read the system version
from /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist.
