Hmmm...So a WindowRef cannot be refenced as an NSWindow?

Egads, no. What on earth gave you the idea that it could?

They're different beasts?

Very. This is why, for example, NSWindow has an initWithWindowRef
method. And a windowRef method. (Refer to documentation for caveats on
their usage.)
