you can get the window number this way. No need for private APIs:

#include <objc/objc.h>

int GetNSWindowNumber( void* inNSWindow )

{

int number = -1;

SEL sel = sel_registerName("windowNumber");

if( sel )

number = objc_msgSend( inNSWindow, sel );

return number;

}
