Dan
Reason: I have a window in which I'd like to provide single-wheel zooming in x & y axes when there's only one wheel, or dual-wheel zooming in each axis separately when available.
So what happens when you have two or more input devices attached? My wife usually uses an external mouse with her PowerBook, but when sit down at the same machine I use the trackpad. (Which has two-finger scrolling only vertically, even if a Mighty Mouse has both x and y scrolling.)
You might be better off with a preference in any case: "Mouse wheel zooms both x & y" and default it on. People with appropriate devices who really want this behavior can enable it.
